Tom has been teaching drum lessons professionally for over 5 years and is able to teach a wide range of abilities and skill levels. If you are a complete beginner and just want to learn a few tunes then he is more than happy to help, and if you’ve been playing for years but want to brush up on the intricacies of hand technique then he can also go through that with you.
Tom can teach drum lessons at his studio, as well as travel to teach at the pupil’s home for a small fee. Tom has taught students of all ages and abilities from complete beginner to professional drummer, so regardless of your age and experience he will be able to help you improve. Tom actively gigs and records on a weekly basis, so you can also be confident that whatever he teaches is backed up with practical real-life experience.
Tom is comfortable teaching many different topics, including groove/timing, drumset independence, polyrhythms, hand and foot technique, double bass, and chart reading/writing. He has studied with a range of accomplished drummers, including Chad Wackerman (Frank Zappa, James Taylor, Barbara Streisand), Dave Elitch (Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus), Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson), Mike Clark (Herbie Hancock), Ged Lynch (Peter Gabriel) and Rick Jupp (Elbow), so he can pass on many valuable lessons from these players to you.
Tom has an enhanced DBS check, Grade 8 Distinction Drums, Grade 5 Music Theory, Grade 5 Piano and Grade 5 Trumpet, so he can teach drum lessons for graded exams if that is something you would like to do. Skype lessons are also available for people who can’t come to the lesson in person.
